After launching in Hartford in 2020, country superstar Dolly Parton's United Way reading program is expanding in Connecticut. Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which mails books to families with children under the age of five, will be heading next to New Britain. The expansion is in part thanks to Rep. Jahana Hayes, who secured $150,000 from the Community Project Funding in order to bring the program to her district. "The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it would provide under-resourced communities in New Britain with additional literacy supports necessary to move the needle on school readiness and grade-level reading through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) and United Way Readers programs," Hayes said in her request for the funds.
